MOGADISHU – Somali Football Federation (SFF) President Ali Abdi Mohamed and his delegation have successfully arrived in the United States to participate in activities surrounding the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking the resolution of a lengthy visa process that had previously delayed their travel plans.
The delegation’s arrival represents a significant milestone for Somali football, ensuring the country’s football leadership can engage in key meetings, networking events, and official FIFA-related activities during the world’s largest football tournament.
For months, concerns had been raised regarding visa delays affecting the travel of Somali football officials, creating uncertainty over their participation in important World Cup engagements. The successful issuance of visas and subsequent arrival in the United States has now cleared the way for the federation to complete its planned schedule.
Speaking after arriving in the United States, members of the delegation expressed appreciation to all parties involved in resolving the travel challenges. They emphasized that their presence at the tournament provides an important opportunity to strengthen Somalia’s relationships with FIFA, the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and football associations from around the world.
The visit is expected to include discussions on football development, youth programs, infrastructure investment, capacity building, and future opportunities for Somali football. Federation officials are also expected to attend meetings focused on the growth of the sport across Africa and preparations for upcoming international competitions.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup, hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, has brought together football administrators, players, and stakeholders from across the globe. Somalia’s participation in related events underscores the country’s commitment to expanding its presence in international football and advancing the development of the game at home.
Football remains Somalia’s most popular sport, and the federation has in recent years intensified efforts to improve domestic competitions, support youth talent development, and strengthen the country’s standing within regional and international football structures.
The arrival of President Ali Abdi Mohamed and his delegation is therefore viewed as an important step in ensuring Somalia’s representation in global football discussions and enhancing cooperation with international sporting partners during the FIFA World Cup.
