MOGADISHU – Somalia’s Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has visited the Embassy of Qatar in Mogadishu to offer condolences following the death of Qatar’s former Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

Prime Minister Hamza conveyed his condolences to Qatar’s current Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, as well as to the government and people of Qatar, expressing solidarity with Somalia’s close ally during a period of mourning.

The Prime Minister said the Somali government and people share the grief of their Qatari brothers and sisters, describing the relationship between the two countries as one built on strong bonds of friendship, cooperation, and mutual support.

Hamza emphasized that Somalia deeply values the longstanding ties between the two nations and acknowledged Qatar’s continued support for Somalia and its people. He said the loss of the former Emir was felt not only in Qatar but also among many Somalis who view the relationship between the two countries as a partnership based on shared interests and brotherhood.

“We recognize the honorable role played by the government and people of Qatar in supporting their Somali brothers and the wider Arab community. This reflects the deep feelings of solidarity and the pain felt by the Somali people following the passing of the former Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani,” Prime Minister Hamza said.

The Prime Minister prayed for Sheikh Hamad’s soul to be granted Jannatul Firdowsa and extended his wishes of patience and faith to Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Al Thani family, and the people of Qatar.

The visit highlights the close diplomatic relationship between Somalia and Qatar, which has expanded in recent years through cooperation in areas including development, investment, politics, and regional affairs.
