CAIRO – Egypt and Montenegro have agreed to expand economic and investment cooperation while strengthening political coordination on regional and international issues during talks between Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović.
Milatović’s visit marked the first presidential trip to Egypt since Montenegro established diplomatic relations with Cairo following its independence in 2006, according to the Egyptian presidency.
The two leaders discussed ways to increase trade, attract investment, and open new areas of cooperation, with a focus on tourism, energy, infrastructure, and development projects.
Al-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to deepening relations with Montenegro and welcomed the creation of a parliamentary friendship group aimed at strengthening communication between the two countries.
Milatović highlighted Montenegro’s interest in benefiting from Egypt’s experience in tourism, energy, and infrastructure, while noting the success of existing Egyptian investments in Montenegro’s tourism sector. He also expressed his country’s desire to attract further Egyptian investment in additional industries.
The Montenegrin president praised Egypt’s efforts in addressing illegal migration and emphasized the importance of cooperation on shared regional challenges.
The talks also covered developments in the Middle East. Al-Sisi stressed Egypt’s efforts to reduce regional tensions and called for diplomatic solutions to ongoing crises. He also expressed support for a comprehensive agreement between the United States and Iran and reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to the security and sovereignty of Gulf countries.
On the Palestinian issue, Al-Sisi reiterated Cairo’s support for a two-state solution based on international law, rejected the displacement of Palestinians, and called for continued humanitarian assistance and the reconstruction of Gaza.
Milatović voiced support for the two-state solution and praised Egypt’s role in promoting peace and stability, saying both countries share a commitment to resolving conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy.
The two presidents agreed to strengthen political consultations, expand economic partnerships, and increase cooperation across multiple sectors. Milatović also invited Al-Sisi to make an official visit to Montenegro as part of efforts to further develop bilateral ties.
