Northeastern Forces Display Heavy Weapons Following Firdhiye Remarks

LAS ANOD — Forces from Somalia’s Northeastern regional administration have displayed heavy weapons and a large number of troops following recent remarks by Northeastern leader, Abdulqadir Ahmed Aw-Ali (Firdhiye), highlighting rising security tensions in northern Somalia.

Images and videos circulating on social media showed military vehicles, heavy weaponry and armed personnel assembled in what appeared to be a demonstration of the administration’s military preparedness.

The display came days after statements by President Firdhiye that heightened political and security tensions between the two sides, although no major clashes were immediately reported.

Neither side has announced plans for military action, but the latest developments have raised concerns among observers over the risk of further escalation in the disputed areas.

Analysts say the military mobilization reflects continuing tensions over territorial control and political authority in northern Somalia, where previous confrontations have displaced civilians and disrupted local communities.

There has been no immediate official comment from the Federal Government of Somalia regarding the reported military display, while regional observers have urged all parties to exercise restraint and pursue dialogue to avoid renewed conflict.
