MOGADISHU — Somalia and Nigeria have discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation in key areas including security, education, trade and investment.
Nigeria’s Ambassador-designate to Kenya, with concurrent accreditation to Somalia, His Excellency Danlami Ibrahim, presented copies of his Letters of Credence (Copies d’Usage) to Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, His Excellency Abdisalam Abdi Ali, in a meeting held in Mogadishu.
The two officials held discussions focused on strengthening Nigeria-Somalia bilateral cooperation and promoting regional stability and economic growth.
Their talks covered several areas of mutual interest, including education, security, trade and investment, diaspora management, culture, and the creative economy.
Security cooperation was highlighted as an important area given the shared challenges facing countries in the region. The two sides also explored opportunities to expand economic and commercial ties, including investment and trade between the two countries.
Education and cultural cooperation were also discussed, with both sides emphasizing the importance of strengthening people-to-people relations and creating greater opportunities for academic and cultural exchanges.
The meeting comes as Somalia continues to deepen diplomatic and economic partnerships with African countries as part of efforts to strengthen regional cooperation and promote development.
The discussions between Ambassador Ibrahim and Minister Abdisalam Abdi Ali are expected to contribute to closer engagement between Nigeria and Somalia, particularly on issues affecting regional security, economic development and cooperation across Africa.
