DOOLOW — The Federal Government of Somalia says it is closely monitoring an incident reported in Doolow District, Gedo region, after explosions and gunfire were heard in the area, triggering concern and confusion among local residents.
In a statement, the government said security forces and other relevant authorities received preliminary reports indicating that explosions and gunfire had occurred near a house in the district. However, officials have not yet provided a detailed account of what caused the incident or identified those responsible.
The government said it has moved quickly to establish a fact-finding committee tasked with investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, including what happened at the reported location and the events that preceded and followed the explosions and gunfire.
According to the statement, the findings of the investigation will be made public once the inquiry is completed. The government urged the public to rely on verified information and avoid circulating unconfirmed reports that could further increase tensions or create unnecessary fear.
Doolow is considered strategically important because of its location in Gedo and its role in regional security and movement. The district is also an important point for communities and commercial activity along the Somalia-Ethiopia border.
The government said maintaining calm in Doolow remains a priority and called on residents to cooperate with security authorities while the investigation is underway.
The statement did not immediately provide details on casualties, property damage, the identity of the individuals involved, or whether the incident was the result of an armed attack or another type of security operation.
The government’s decision to launch a formal investigation comes amid heightened political and security sensitivities in parts of southern Somalia, where incidents involving senior political and security figures can quickly generate conflicting reports.
