MOGADISHU — A high-level dialogue on strengthening cooperation between the Somali government and citizens was held as part of the Generations Consultative Forum on Peacebuilding and Good Governance, bringing together senior government officials and civil society representatives.
The discussion focused on strengthening partnerships between government institutions and communities to advance peacebuilding, reconciliation, accountable governance and inclusive political participation.
The session was moderated by Sacdiyo Omar Saylac, an adviser at Somalia’s Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation.
The panel included Hon. Ali Yusuf Ali (Xoosh), Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation; Sadad Alio, State Minister; Abdihakim Ashkir, Deputy Minister; Abdulkadir Ali, Director General; Abdulkadir Wehliye, Director of the Directorate General of Civil Registration Services; and Duniyo Mohamed Arash, a representative of civil society organizations.
Participants discussed ways to expand public participation in governance and give citizens a greater role in shaping policies and initiatives affecting their communities.
The dialogue also examined the connection between good governance and sustainable peace, with speakers emphasizing that stronger cooperation between state institutions and communities can help build public trust and promote long-term stability.
Participants raised questions and offered recommendations on peacebuilding, good governance and inclusive decision-making, with particular attention given to vulnerable communities and young people.
Speakers stressed the importance of creating meaningful opportunities for young people to participate in leadership and national decision-making, highlighting their role in shaping Somalia’s future.
The forum underscored the need for continued dialogue between government institutions, civil society and citizens, with transparency, accountability and public participation identified as key pillars of effective governance.
The gathering forms part of broader efforts to promote dialogue across generations and strengthen cooperation between the Somali government and its citizens as the country works toward a more peaceful, inclusive and accountable political system.
