RIYADH — At least 12 people were killed and 309 others injured in an attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Saturday, according to reported official figures.
The victims reportedly included Saudi nationals and citizens of several other countries. Several injured people were said to be in critical condition and receiving medical treatment.
Airport operations were disrupted as authorities assessed the damage and addressed security concerns. Multiple flights were reportedly cancelled or diverted, while emergency crews responded to the incident.
The attack was reported to be the third strike targeting the airport within a week. Earlier attacks reportedly caused additional casualties and damaged a commercial aircraft, raising concerns about the security of Saudi Arabia’s civilian aviation infrastructure.
Saudi authorities attributed the attacks to Yemen’s Houthi movement. However, responsibility for the latest incident had not been independently established in the initial reports.
The incident has heightened regional tensions and raised further concerns about civilian safety, aviation security and the potential for a wider escalation in the conflict.
Authorities are continuing to assess the situation as further details emerge.
