Villa Somalia Holds High-Level Meeting Amid Rising Political and Military Tensions in Hiiraan

MOGADISHU — A sensitive meeting reportedly took place today at Villa Somalia involving five Members of Parliament, the Deputy Commander of the Jowhar administration’s forces, and President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, amid escalating political and security tensions between Hiiraan and Hirshabelle.

According to information circulating from political sources, the meeting focused on three major issues concerning the political future of Hirshabelle and efforts to protect the interests of the Justice and Solidarity Party (JSP).

The first issue reportedly concerned how to counter the growing political movement emerging from Hiiraan, including efforts to challenge the proposed Hirshabelle state-building initiative reportedly led by Ugaas Yusuf Ugaas Hassan, alongside the political influence of intelligence chief Abdullahi Mohamed Ali Sanbaloolshe.

The second issue focused on efforts to regain control of the Lamagalaay military camp and weaken the unity of local clans through financial incentives and political engagement with members of parliament. These reported discussions come amid growing recognition of the military strength demonstrated by the Hawadle community.

The third issue reportedly involved plans for President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to travel to Jowhar, while bringing Hirshabelle shameless leader Ali Abdullahi Hussein (Guudlaawe) back from Mogadishu in an effort to ease tensions and prevent the situation in Hiiraan from deteriorating further.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that the removal of individuals representing the Jowhar administration in Beledweyne could begin tomorrow, potentially opening another chapter in the escalating confrontation.

The political standoff is increasingly becoming a contest of influence between Ugaas Yusuf Ugaas Hassan and President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, with both sides reportedly mobilising their respective political and institutional resources.

The central question now facing Somalia’s political landscape is: Who will emerge victorious in this growing struggle for political authority and control over the future of Hiiraan?
