The Commander of the Somali Police Force, General Asad Osman Abdullahi, officially received a fleet of modern military vehicles today donated by the United States government to support Somalia’s counter-terrorism efforts.

The handover ceremony took place in Mogadishu and was attended by U.S. Deputy Ambassador to Somalia, Mr. Steven Gillen, who oversaw the formal transfer of the equipment. The vehicles are designated for use by the Somali Police Force, particularly its Counter-Terrorism Unit.

During the ceremony, General Asad expressed his gratitude to the United States for its continued support to Somalia’s security forces. He emphasized the importance of the newly received vehicles in strengthening the mobility and operational capacity of the special forces tasked with combating terrorism.
“These vehicles will significantly enhance the effectiveness of our counter-terrorism units, who often require rapid mobility and modern equipment to respond to threats posed by Al-Shabaab and other hostile groups,” said General Asad.
“This donation represents a critical step in improving the capability and readiness of our forces.”
He added that the quality and equipping of Somalia’s security forces have seen notable improvements in recent years, and this donation is a continuation of the efforts aimed at securing the nation.
The United States remains one of Somalia’s closest partners, especially in areas of security, military training, and counter-terrorism. This recent support reflects Washington’s ongoing commitment to assisting Somalia in stabilizing and building a safer future.
