Mogadishu, Somalia – The Federal Government of Somalia is reportedly planning a new deployment of weapons and troops to the Gedo region, as part of preparations for upcoming one-person, one-vote elections currently being organized by Villa Somalia.

According to sources, a new shipment of arms is expected to be sent to Gedo, along with federal troops, in a move seen as an effort to influence the electoral process in the region. Reports indicate that the main objective is for Villa Somalia to secure parliamentary seats in Gedo by positioning loyal candidates for election.
Reliable sources told Caasimada Online that the plan includes the integration of former Jubaland members into the operation, alongside newly appointed military officers. These personnel are expected to receive combat vehicles and will reportedly be flown from Mogadishu to Gedo.
In response to the federal government’s mobilization, Jubaland has taken swift action. On the same day, the regional state dispatched a high-level delegation to Gedo, led by Vice President Mahmoud Sayid Aden. The delegation arrived in the town of Beled-Hawo, where they were warmly welcomed by local leaders, including members of the Jubaland cabinet, MPs, and officials from both the Gedo regional administration and Beled-Hawo district.
Jubaland officials are expected to initiate meetings and activities in the region aimed at addressing the current developments and asserting their authority over the Gedo region, which has been a hotspot of political and military tension between the federal government and the Jubaland administration.
The move marks a fresh escalation in the long-standing power struggle over Gedo, raising concerns about renewed instability in the already volatile region.
