Mogadishu – The Commander of the Somali Custodial Corps, Major General Mahad Abdirahman Aden, has publicly disclosed that there is reliable intelligence indicating that the terrorist group Al-Shabaab is planning an attack on Mogadishu Central Prison.

Speaking during a press briefing, General Mahad confirmed that Somali security forces are on high alert and fully prepared to respond to any attempted assault on the prison. He made it clear that if Al-Shabaab tries to stage a prison break to release their detained members, the response from the authorities will be firm and immediate.

“We regularly receive intelligence reports detailing which routes and entry points they are considering for a possible operation to free their jailed members,” General Mahad stated. “We are aware of their plots and are taking all necessary steps to prevent them. Their plans will not succeed.”

The general also issued a strong warning to people found loitering or lingering suspiciously near the prison compound. He said that the Custodial Corps is monitoring all activities around the prison carefully and urged the general public to be vigilant and report anything unusual.

In addition, General Mahad addressed his own personnel, expressing concern over the excessive use of mobile phones while on duty. He warned that such behavior could pose a serious security risk, as it could create vulnerabilities that might be exploited by enemies of the state.

“Our officers must act with discipline and unity. This is not the time for personal ambition or chasing promotions,” he said. “They must stay focused on their safety and on protecting critical national security sites like this prison.”

General Mahad concluded his remarks by calling on all security personnel to report any suspicious activities, irregular behavior, or threats without delay. He emphasized that timely communication is vital to preserving the safety and integrity of important institutions like Mogadishu Central Prison.
