Addis Ababa – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in Addis Ababa on Sunday to attend the United Nations Global Food Security Summit, a high-level international forum focused on addressing the world’s worsening food crisis.
President Hassan Sheikh is expected to deliver a keynote address highlighting Somalia’s food insecurity challenges, particularly in the Horn of Africa. His speech will emphasize the country’s ongoing efforts to reduce social vulnerability, the impact of climate change on agriculture and livestock, and the critical role of international cooperation in achieving sustainable development.
During his visit, the Somali leader is also scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. The two leaders will discuss regional issues and strengthen relations between their nations, according to the Somali government.
The summit, officially known as the UN Food Systems Summit +4 (UNFSS+4), is taking place from July 27 to 29 in Addis Ababa. It builds on the 2021 UN Food Systems Summit and the 2023 stocktake, aiming to evaluate progress, boost global collaboration, and mobilize resources to transform food systems in support of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.
