MOGADISHU – Two former Somali Prime Ministers, Mohamed Hussein Roble and Hassan Ali Khaire, have strongly condemned the violent clashes that erupted today in Tarabuunka neighborhood, Hodan district, Mogadishu, accusing the Somali government of direct responsibility for the bloodshed.

In a press statement, Mohamed Hussein Roble described the incident as a “national tragedy” that is utterly unacceptable. He sharply criticized the use of heavy weaponry against civilians, calling the act a grave violation of human rights, the law, and Somali societal values.

Roble extended his condolences to the families of those killed and wished a swift recovery to the injured. He called for the immediate withdrawal of what he described as “confused government forces” causing harm to the local community. He also demanded that all those responsible for the bloodshed be brought to justice to ensure accountability and prevent a repeat of such violence.

Meanwhile, Hassan Ali Khaire, who served as prime minister before Roble, accused President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s administration of engaging in illegal land grabbing. He warned that if the current situation continues, it could destabilize the country.

“It is deeply troubling that the Somali National Army—trained to protect civilians and combat extremism—is now being used under orders from President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to kill civilians, seize public land, and forcibly evict vulnerable families,” Khaire wrote on his social media account.

“I once again urge President Hassan Sheikh to immediately halt the illegal land seizures, civilian killings, and forced displacement of poor residents in the capital,” he added.

The Tarabuunka incident has sparked widespread concern among the public and political leaders, highlighting the urgent need for peaceful dialogue and restraint to prevent further escalation.
