MOGADISHU — A motion to unseat Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre is rapidly gaining ground as an increasing number of lawmakers openly voice their support for his removal.

Members of the Federal Parliament’s House of the People have begun organizing meetings and collecting signatures for a no-confidence motion, accusing the prime minister’s government of failing to address key national priorities, including security, anti-corruption measures, and the implementation of the federal system.

“We must save the country. This government is losing the people’s trust and undermining the very foundations of governance. Its inaction and political deadlock have left us no choice but to initiate this motion,” one pro-impeachment lawmaker told Horn Africa News.

Insider reports indicate that more than 100 lawmakers have already signed the motion, reflecting significant backing within parliament.

Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has not publicly responded to the ongoing push, but members of his office dismissed the effort as a politically motivated move intended to disrupt the government’s work.

If the motion secures the required number of signatures and is formally tabled in parliament, it could have far-reaching consequences for the political future of the prime minister and his cabinet.

The development comes at a time of mounting political and security challenges in Somalia, with tensions escalating between the federal government and several federal member states.
