MOGADISHU – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Tuesday received a high-level Sudanese delegation led by General Ahmed Ibrahim Ali Mufadal, Director General of Sudan’s National Intelligence Service, during an official visit to the Presidential Palace in Mogadishu.

General Mufadal delivered a written message from Sudan’s Transitional Sovereign Council Chairman, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, reaffirming Khartoum’s commitment to deepening political, security, and intelligence cooperation with Somalia.

The meeting was also attended by Somalia’s intelligence chief, Mahad Mohamed Salad, with discussions centered on counterterrorism coordination, intelligence-sharing, and strengthening regional stability.

According to officials, both sides underscored the importance of closer cooperation in confronting shared security threats, particularly violent extremism and political instability across the Horn of Africa.

The visit comes as Sudan remains locked in a brutal civil conflict that has killed thousands and displaced millions, raising fears of wider regional instability. Somalia, meanwhile, continues its protracted fight against the Al-Shabaab insurgency while pursuing ambitious security and political reforms.

Diplomatic observers say the talks reflect a broader trend of intelligence and security collaboration across the Horn of Africa, as governments seek stronger alliances to address common challenges and reinforce regional resilience.
