LAS ANOD — The parliament of Somalia’s Northeastern regional state has voted to strip five lawmakers of their parliamentary immunity, a day after the legislators announced their resignations.
The motion was approved by 57 lawmakers, surpassing the two-thirds majority required under Article 9 of the parliament’s internal regulations, according to parliamentary officials.
The lawmakers affected are Makhtal Said Mahmoud, Abdulsalam Abdullahi Abdirahman, Sadiq Jama Muse, Ahmed Ali Mohamed and Ahmed Abdi Hassan.
Regional authorities said the lawmakers had departed from the political vision and principles upon which the Northeastern administration was founded, arguing that their actions were inconsistent with the state’s constitutional and political framework.
The decision marks the latest political development within the regional administration, highlighting ongoing tensions over governance and political allegiance in northern Somalia. No immediate response was issued by the five lawmakers following the vote
