The Governor of Somalia’s Lower Shabelle region, Ibrahim Aadan Ali Najah, has arrived at the frontline areas of Sabiid and Caanoole in Afgooye District, where Somali government forces have recently intensified military operations against the Al-Shabaab militant group.

Governor Najah, who has been leading efforts in the region to combat terrorism and restore stability, visited the area to assess the situation following a successful military campaign that saw government forces regain control from the extremist group.
Upon his arrival, the governor was welcomed by the District Commissioner of Afgooye—who also serves as the Mayor—the local area administrator, and high-ranking officers from the Somali National Army (SNA).
The delegation held briefings on the progress made in recent days and discussed strategies for maintaining security and rebuilding local governance in the reclaimed areas.
The visit marks a critical step in the government’s broader initiative to secure liberated territories and support communities recovering from years of insurgent control.
Governor Najah emphasized the importance of consolidating gains made by the national army and ensuring that Al-Shabaab does not regain a foothold in the region.
“The defeat of Al-Shabaab in Sabiid and Caanoole is a victory for the people of Lower Shabelle,” Governor Najah said. “Our forces have shown courage and determination. Now, our focus must shift to restoring public services, rebuilding trust, and ensuring long-term peace.”
The local population, long affected by violence and displacement, has welcomed the presence of government officials and soldiers. Community leaders have expressed hope that continued support and development will follow the military success.
The Somali government, in collaboration with international partners, continues to carry out military operations across southern and central Somalia as part of a national strategy to eliminate the threat posed by Al-Shabaab and reestablish effective governance throughout the country.
