MOGADISHU (HAN) – The Somali Police Force Commander, Major General Asad Osman Abdullahi, on Saturday held a high-level meeting in Mogadishu with EUCAP Somalia Head Kęstutis Lančinskas and Head of Operations Dania Cossa, focusing on strengthening collaboration between the Somali Police Force and the European Union capacity-building mission.
According to officials, the discussions centered on key areas including police training programs, the provision of equipment support, and technical advisory services that are vital for building a modern and professional police institution in Somalia.
The Somali Police leadership emphasized the need for continuous international cooperation to enhance security and law enforcement across the country. For its part, EUCAP Somalia reaffirmed its long-term commitment to supporting the country’s security institutions, noting that sustainable peace and stability depend on effective and well-trained law enforcement agencies.
This latest engagement reflects the ongoing reforms initiated by Commander Asad since he assumed office. His leadership has been credited with introducing visible improvements, strengthening accountability, and prioritizing professional development within the police force.
The meeting comes at a time when Somalia continues to face complex security challenges, including terrorism, organized crime, and the need to rebuild trust between communities and security institutions. Strengthening the Somali Police Force remains a critical component of Somalia’s broader state-building and stabilization efforts.
