NEW YORK, (HAN) – President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, accompanied by Somalia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Abukar Osman Dahir Baalle, attended a high-level meeting in New York focused on the recognition of Palestinian statehood and the affirmation of Palestinian historical rights.

The Federal Government of Somalia reaffirmed its long-standing position of solidarity with the people and government of Palestine, recalling that Somalia was among the first nations to recognize the State of Palestine. Somalia also reiterated its consistent support for efforts aimed at establishing an independent Palestinian state.

Furthermore, Somalia welcomed and encouraged the recent historic decisions by countries recognizing Palestine, noting that such steps contribute to regional stability, peace, and the realization of the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights.
