MOGADISHU, (HAN) – The Somali government has intensified military activity in the capital, deploying heavily armed troops and armored vehicles across key roads leading to the homes of opposition leaders.

Images circulated by opposition sources show armored vehicles stationed at checkpoints near Aden Adde International Airport, raising concerns over heightened political tensions in Mogadishu.

According to opposition insiders, the primary objective of the government’s move is to closely monitor the movements of opposition politicians and curb alleged arms trafficking within the city.

The deployment has sparked unease among Mogadishu residents, with many expressing fears that the standoff could escalate into direct clashes between security forces and opposition supporters.

This latest development comes as the opposition prepares for peaceful demonstrations scheduled for Saturday. Opposition leaders have accused sections of the Somali leadership of engaging in widespread land grabbing—allegations that the government has strongly denied.

The military buildup marks a sharp escalation in the standoff between the federal government and opposition factions, further fueling public anxiety over Somalia’s fragile security and political stability.
