MOGADISHU, (HAN) – Former Somali President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed has issued a stern condemnation following the recent attack on the Warta Nabadda police station in Mogadishu, highlighting ongoing security challenges in the capital. The attack, which targeted law enforcement personnel, has raised concerns over the safety of government institutions and the continued threat posed by militant groups in Somalia.
In an official statement, Sheikh Sharif denounced the perpetrators, describing the attack as “an assault on the Somali people and the institutions that serve them.” He called on the federal government, led by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, and federal security forces to take swift and decisive measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. Sheikh Sharif also stressed the critical need for unity among Somali political leaders, including Aden Madobe, the Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament, in responding to national security threats.
“The security of Mogadishu is not the responsibility of any single individual or institution; it requires a united and coordinated effort from all Somali leaders, security agencies, and communities,” Sheikh Sharif said. He further urged that the perpetrators be brought to justice and that the government intensify efforts to safeguard civilians, law enforcement personnel, and government offices from recurrent attacks.
The Warta Nabadda police station, located in a densely populated area of Mogadishu, has been a frequent target for attacks by militant groups seeking to destabilize the city and undermine government authority. While authorities have launched investigations into the incident, no group has claimed responsibility. The attack has sparked widespread concern among residents, who continue to face security challenges amid recurring violence in the capital.
Sheikh Sharif’s statement reflects the growing urgency for enhanced security measures, strengthened intelligence operations, and greater coordination among federal and local authorities to prevent attacks that threaten public safety and national stability.
