MOGADISHU, (HAN) – The Federal Republic of Somalia’s Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, H.E. Da’ud Aweys Jama, on Tuesday received a high-level delegation from the Arab League led by Mr. Zayd Al-Sabban, Director of the Horn of Africa and Sudan Department at the Arab League.

The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between Somalia and the Arab League in the fields of media development and cultural affairs. Particular emphasis was placed on initiatives to promote and enhance the Arabic language in Somalia.

Minister Da’ud Aweys welcomed the efforts of the Arab League in supporting the use and development of the Arabic language. He highlighted that the National Media is ready to play a central role in campaigns and programs aimed at expanding Arabic proficiency in the country, as it has actively contributed to similar initiatives in the past.

For his part, Mr. Zayd Al-Sabban reaffirmed the Arab League’s commitment to full cooperation with Somalia’s National Media institutions. He pledged continuous support to the Somali government, particularly in strengthening the Arabic language and improving media capacity.

During the visit, the Minister of Information and the Arab League delegation also toured the Radio Mogadishu Archives, where an ongoing project is underway to modernize and digitize historical media records.

The meeting was attended by senior officials including the Director General of the Ministry of Information, Mr. Abdullahi Hayir Nur; Somalia’s Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Ambassador Ali Abdi Aware; Dr. Rami Zaki Iskandar, Director of Education at ALECSO; Dr. Ali Abdalla Al-Naeem, Director of the Arab Language Institute of ALECSO in Khartoum; the Arab League Ambassador to Somalia, Mr. Abdullahi Mudhlaq Al-Uteybah; and other representatives from both sides.
