MOGADISHU, (HAN) – Major General Asad Osman Abdullahi, Commander of the Somali Police Force, has inaugurated a new training program focusing on combat skills and military law, marking the inclusion of women in the first cohort of the program within the Darawiish Police Division.

The inclusion of female officers highlights their increasing role in professional development and leadership within the Somali Police Force.

During General Asad’s tenure, the police have prioritized creating opportunities for women to advance their skills and take on leadership positions.

This initiative is part of the commitments General Asad made upon assuming his position, aiming to modernize the force and promote gender inclusivity within security institutions.

The training program combines practical combat exercises with lessons on military law to ensure that officers, both men and women, are prepared for operational challenges while upholding the principles of justice and discipline.

Officials say the program reflects a broader effort to strengthen the capabilities of the Somali Police Force, enhance operational readiness, and foster equality in professional opportunities across the force.
