KISMAYO, (HAN) – Security preparations are intensifying in the southern Somali city of Kismayo, where two aircraft carrying Somali Presidential Guard forces and African Union peacekeepers from the AUSSOM mission are expected to land at Sayid Mohamed Abdulle Hassan International Airport, reliable sources confirmed.
The deployment comes ahead of an official visit by Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who is scheduled to travel to the port city in the coming days.
Officials from the Jubaland regional administration told Shabelle Media that the troops will provide security for the president throughout his stay in Kismayo.
At the same time, Jubaland President Ahmed Mohamed Islam “Madobe,” who is currently in Nairobi, is expected to return to Kismayo tomorrow. President Hassan Sheikh is anticipated to arrive the following day.
The planned meeting between the two leaders is seen as politically significant, given the strained relations between the Federal Government of Somalia and the Jubaland administration over issues of authority, governance, and security cooperation.
Analysts note that the talks in Kismayo are likely to center on strengthening federal-state collaboration, resolving disputes over power-sharing, and charting Somalia’s broader political trajectory.
The anticipated discussions are being closely monitored both domestically and internationally, as the outcome could play a decisive role in shaping Somalia’s political stability in the months ahead.
