MOGADISHU — A delegation from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Somalia, led by Deputy Resident Representative Dr. Christopher Laker, held discussions with newly appointed ministers from Somalia’s Southwest State as part of efforts to strengthen cooperation and advance shared development goals.
The meeting brought together key members of the Southwest State cabinet, including the Ministers of Planning, Women and Human Rights Development, Environment and Climate Change, Humanitarian Affairs, and Water and Energy.
During the discussions, UNDP and Southwest State officials explored ways to enhance collaboration, align development priorities, and identify practical opportunities to support inclusive governance, climate resilience, gender equality, and sustainable development initiatives.
The talks focused on strengthening partnerships between UNDP and state institutions while ensuring that development programs respond to the needs of local communities and contribute to Somalia’s broader federal development agenda.
Dr. Christopher Laker emphasized the importance of locally driven solutions and stronger coordination with government institutions to achieve sustainable results and improve the delivery of essential services.
UNDP Somalia reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the Federal Government of Somalia and Federal Member States to support inclusive development, strengthen institutions, and promote solutions that improve livelihoods and resilience among communities across the country.
The engagement comes as Somalia continues efforts to advance federal governance, address humanitarian challenges, and implement long-term development strategies aimed at building a more stable and resilient nation.
