KAMPALA, (HAN) – President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed Lady Justice Aisha Naluzze Batala as the new Inspector General of Government (IGG), replacing Beti Olive Namisango Kamya-Turomwe, who has held the position since 2021.

According to the announcement from State House, Justice Batala’s appointment is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Uganda’s anti-corruption institutions and ensure greater accountability within public offices.

Lady Justice Batala is a respected member of the judiciary with years of experience in legal and public service. Before her new appointment, she served as a Justice of the Court of Appeal, where she handled several high-profile cases involving governance and integrity.

President Museveni expressed confidence in her ability to lead the Office of the Inspector General of Government (IGG), emphasizing that the fight against corruption remains a key priority for his administration.

Her appointment is subject to parliamentary approval, as required by the Constitution of Uganda. Once approved, Justice Batala will officially take over from Beti Kamya, who is expected to hand over office after completing her tenure.

The IGG is an independent body mandated to promote good governance, investigate corruption, abuse of office, and maladministration in public institutions across Uganda.

Observers say Justice Batala’s appointment may signal a renewed push by the government to restore public trust in anti-corruption agencies and improve transparency in service delivery.
