GAZA, (HAN) — The United States has begun deploying special forces to Israel to help oversee and ensure compliance with the recently brokered ceasefire agreement between the Israeli government and Hamas, according to reports from the Middle East.

ABC News, citing informed sources, reported that the first contingent of U.S. troops has already arrived in Israel. The forces are tasked with supporting operations related to the monitoring and verification of the ceasefire that brought an end to the prolonged Gaza conflict.

U.S. officials emphasized that the deployed forces will not participate in any combat operations. Instead, their mission will focus on observation, follow-up, and confirming that both sides adhere to the terms of the ceasefire.

The move comes as the international community closely watches the implementation of the truce, following two years of intense fighting that resulted in massive casualties and a severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
