MOGADISHU, (HAN)— Interpol has transferred Jama Abdi to Mogadishu after apprehending him in Rwanda, following allegations that he committed rape in Qardho, Somalia, and circulated obscene material online.

The suspect, who had been evading authorities for months, was tracked and captured through coordinated efforts between Somali law enforcement and Interpol. Somali security officials said that he will face prosecution in Somalia for multiple charges, including sexual assault and the dissemination of inappropriate content.

“This arrest highlights the importance of international cooperation in bringing fugitives to justice,” a senior Somali security official said. “Crimes like these cannot go unpunished, and we are committed to ensuring accountability.”

Authorities noted that the suspect is currently in the custody of Somali security agencies and will be formally presented before the courts in the coming days. The arrest is part of Somalia’s broader effort to strengthen law enforcement and combat gender-based violence and cyber-related offenses.

Security officials also urged the public to report any information regarding individuals involved in sexual crimes or online distribution of obscene content, emphasizing that community cooperation is vital for preventing such crimes.

Interpol’s involvement demonstrates the role of international law enforcement networks in supporting Somalia’s legal system, particularly in apprehending individuals who attempt to flee the country to evade justice.
