MOGADISHU, (HAN) — The Federal Government of Somalia has announced plans to employ 40,000 young Somalis as part of a nationwide initiative aimed at reducing unemployment and promoting economic growth.
Government officials said the large-scale recruitment drive is part of the administration’s broader development agenda to empower youth and strengthen state institutions through sustainable job creation.
“The youth are the backbone of Somalia’s future. The government is committed to providing them with opportunities to contribute to national rebuilding and peacebuilding,” said the Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs during the program’s launch event in Mogadishu.
According to the ministry, the jobs will be created across key sectors including public services, security, environmental protection, and infrastructure development. Some of the recruits will also be placed in community-based development projects across Somalia’s federal member states.
The initiative will include vocational and technical training programs to equip young people with practical skills and improve their employability.
In recent years, Somalia’s government has prioritized youth empowerment through education, entrepreneurship, and employment programs. The new 40,000-job initiative marks a significant step toward implementing the National Transformation Framework (2025–2030), which seeks to promote inclusive growth and sustainable development across the country.
