MOGADISHU — Somalia and Germany have signed a new €75 million development cooperation agreement aimed at boosting economic growth and resilience across key sectors.

The deal was signed by Somalia’s Minister of Planning, Investment and Economic Development, Mahmud A. Sheikh Farah (Beenebeene), and Julia Hanning, Head of the East Africa Department at Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

The new framework supports Somalia’s National Transformation Plan (NTP 2025–2029) and focuses on agriculture, education, employment, vocational training (TVET), water and irrigation management, and climate change adaptation.

The agreement followed two days of high-level discussions in Mogadishu, building on cooperation established through a previous accord signed in 2023.

“This partnership reinforces Somalia’s development priorities, especially job creation, service delivery, and climate resilience,” Minister Beenebeene said.

Ms Hanning reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to Somalia’s progress, describing the relationship as one based on “over six decades of friendship, mutual respect, and cooperation.”

Germany remains one of Somalia’s key European partners in governance reform, economic development, and climate adaptation. Officials say the new agreement reflects a renewed commitment to advancing Somalia’s long-term transformation and stability.
