KHARTOUM — Militias from Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have reportedly massacred hundreds of civilians inside El-Fasher’s main hospital, just days after seizing control of the city, according to the head of the World Health Organization (WHO).

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the UN health agency was “shocked and deeply horrified” by reports that at least 460 people were killed inside the hospital.

Before Tedros’ statement, the Sudan Doctors’ Union reported that RSF fighters “brutally killed everyone they found inside the Saudi Hospital — patients, their relatives, and anyone present at the site.” The group did not provide an exact death toll but described the medical facility as having been turned into a “slaughterhouse for civilians.”

The alleged massacre marks one of the deadliest single incidents in Sudan’s ongoing conflict, which has pitted the RSF against the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) for more than a year. El-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, has been under siege for months amid intensifying battles that have displaced thousands of residents and worsened the humanitarian crisis.

International observers have condemned the attack as a grave violation of international humanitarian law, calling for immediate investigations and accountability for those responsible.
