ALGIERS – The governments of Somalia and Algeria have signed a series of cooperation agreements aimed at strengthening bilateral ties in key sectors including livestock exports, oil and natural gas, education, and travel facilitation between the two nations.

According to a statement released by the Somali government on social media, the agreements were signed during a high-level meeting between senior officials from both countries. The deals mark a significant step in expanding economic and diplomatic cooperation between Mogadishu and Algiers.

Under the new arrangements, Algeria has pledged to offer 500 university scholarships to Somali students as part of its support for Somalia’s education sector and human capital development.

The two sides also agreed to enhance trade in livestock and related products, as well as to explore joint ventures in the oil and natural gas industries, with the aim of boosting Somalia’s energy capacity and economic growth.

Additionally, the agreements include provisions to simplify travel and visa procedures for citizens of both countries, promoting stronger people-to-people and business connections.

Officials described the new accords as a reflection of the growing partnership between Somalia and Algeria, both members of the Arab League and the African Union, who share an interest in regional stability and economic integration.
