MOGADISHU — The Federal Republic of Somalia has welcomed the signing of the Doha Peace Framework between the Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the M23 rebel movement, describing the agreement as an important step toward achieving lasting stability in the region.
In a statement, Somalia praised Qatar for its sustained diplomatic efforts in facilitating the negotiations, noting that Doha’s active engagement contributed to an environment conducive to dialogue and constructive engagement under the principles outlined in the Doha Declaration.
Somalia also commended the “valuable and unwavering” roles played by the United States, the Republic of Togo, and the African Union Commission. The statement highlighted that their support and cooperation were instrumental in bringing both sides closer to a shared vision for peace.
The Somali government expressed appreciation for the commitment demonstrated by both the DRC government and the M23 movement throughout the process. It reaffirmed the importance of resolving conflicts through structured dialogue, confidence-building measures, and approaches that prioritise civilian protection, humanitarian access, and the safe return of displaced communities.
