MOGADISHU — Authorities in Somalia’s Banadir region have placed emergency response and health departments on full alert, mobilizing vehicles and personnel to respond to any incidents as Mogadishu prepares for local elections scheduled for Friday.
The governor of Banadir region and mayor of Mogadishu, Dr. Hassan Mohamed Hussein, known as Muungaab, said the Benadir Regional Administration has fully prepared firefighting units, ambulances and trained staff who will operate around the clock to ensure public safety during the election period.
“We have ensured that all emergency response services are ready to deal with any unexpected situation, so that the people of Mogadishu can carry out their civic duty in a safe and secure environment,” the mayor said.
Officials said the preparedness plan includes 24-hour deployment of emergency teams across the capital, with a focus on rapid response to fires, medical emergencies and other critical incidents that could arise during voting.
The Banadir Regional Administration also reminded residents to use the emergency hotline 991 to quickly request assistance, including fire services, ambulances or other urgent support, as the city moves into the final stages of election preparations.
