MOGADISHU, (HAN)— Acting President of the Federal Republic of Somalia and Speaker of the House of the People, Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur (Madobe), has congratulated the Somali people on the occasion of the 71st anniversary of Somali Flag Day, commemorated every year on October 12.
In his message, Sheikh Adan Madobe highlighted the historic significance of the day, which marks the first time the blue flag of the Somali Republic was hoisted — a symbol of freedom, unity, and national identity.
“The blue flag carries the legacy of our long struggle for independence and sovereignty,” the acting president said. “It represents the sacrifices, courage, and determination of our forefathers who shed their blood to defend our national symbols, particularly the flag — the highest emblem of our unity and dignity.”
Madobe emphasized that safeguarding and celebrating the flag is a national duty, serving as an opportunity to teach younger generations the value of patriotism and the importance of defending the nation’s unity.
“Our flag unites us; it is the home of our national symbols and a reminder of the brave struggle waged by past generations. Today is a day to celebrate, to learn, and to strengthen our unity and love for Somalia,” he said.
The acting president also called on all Somalis, both inside the country and abroad, to stand together in peace and solidarity, working collectively to fulfill the dreams and aspirations of the heroes who first raised the Somali flag.
