NAIROBI — Kenya’s Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has called on members of the Somali and Muslim communities to register as voters, participate actively in the democratic process, and support President William Ruto’s development agenda.
Duale made the remarks during the 2026 graduation ceremony of the Zaid Al-Khair Centre for Teaching Quran and Its Sciences in Nairobi, where he presided over the graduation of 150 students who completed different levels of Quranic and religious studies.
The Cabinet Secretary praised religious institutions for their role in promoting discipline, moral values, and responsible citizenship, saying Quranic education contributes to developing future leaders with a strong sense of integrity, accountability, and public service.
Addressing parents, Islamic scholars, and community leaders at the event, Duale encouraged Somali and Muslim communities across Kenya to increase their participation in national affairs by ensuring they are registered voters and exercising their constitutional right to choose leaders.
He also urged residents to support government programmes, including enrollment in the Social Health Authority (SHA), and encouraged voters to evaluate political leaders based on their record of service and contribution to community development.
“Ethical foundations cultivated through religious education are essential for future leadership in both public and private institutions,” Duale said.
The ceremony was attended by prominent religious figures and community representatives, including Sheikh Abdirahman Modogash and Sheikh Abdulrazak Abdullahi, popularly known as General Jir.
Duale’s remarks come as political activities begin to intensify ahead of Kenya’s 2027 general elections, with politicians and community leaders increasingly engaging grassroots supporters and encouraging voter registration.
The Health CS has previously highlighted the importance of stronger political participation among Kenya’s Somali and Muslim communities, which represent a significant voting bloc in several regions, including Nairobi and northeastern Kenya.
The call also comes as the government continues promoting its development programmes, while opposition and ruling party leaders prepare to mobilize support ahead of the next electoral cycle.
