MOGADISHU, (HAN) – The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mohamed Ali Youssouf, has strongly condemned the terrorist attack carried out by Al-Shabaab on October 4, 2025, targeting the Godka Jilacow detention facility in Mogadishu. The attack resulted in multiple deaths and injuries.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Chairperson Youssouf extended his deepest condolences to the Government and people of Somalia, particularly to the families of the victims, and wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the assault.
He reaffirmed the African Union’s unwavering commitment to supporting Somalia in its fight against terrorism and violent extremism that continue to threaten peace and stability in Somalia, the Horn of Africa, and the continent as a whole.
The Chairperson emphasized the crucial role of the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) in combating terrorism in close collaboration with the Somali Security Forces (SSF) through joint operations aimed at restoring peace and stability across the country.
Youssouf also called on all AU Member States, including contributing countries from both the military and police components, as well as the wider international community, to strengthen their support for the Federal Republic of Somalia and AUSSOM in their joint efforts to eliminate Al-Shabaab and other terrorist groups operating in Somalia.
