Despite severe funding challenges, United Nations agencies and humanitarian partners continue to deliver critical support to millions affected by the conflict in Sudan, with renewed calls for international solidarity and support.

U.N. spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric highlighted on Monday that while the humanitarian response is facing significant financial strain—particularly in the health sector—efforts are still underway to protect vulnerable populations, especially women and girls. The U.N. Population Fund (UNFPA), although forced to scale back services in over half of the 93 health facilities it supports, remains committed to maintaining essential services wherever possible.

“This major gap in resources is putting critical services and safe spaces for women and girls at risk,” Dujarric said, urging increased donor support to help sustain operations.

The World Food Programme (WFP) also continues to scale its operations in response to rising food insecurity. As food prices soar—up 14% since April and 113% higher than a year ago—the agency remains active on the ground, delivering emergency assistance to those most in need.

In a sign of continued resilience and response amid crisis, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported that over 1,200 people were able to flee escalating violence in El Fasher and the nearby Abu Shouk displacement camp between June 18 and 21. This brings the number of people who have reached safety from the area to over 400,000 since hostilities escalated in April.

Many of the newly displaced have moved to safer areas within El Fasher locality, where humanitarian partners are working tirelessly—despite access challenges—to reach them with food, shelter, and medical care.

The United Nations has reiterated its call for all parties to guarantee the safety of aid workers and to ensure full humanitarian access to affected communities. International partners are encouraged to step up their support, ensuring that vital relief efforts can continue uninterrupted.

“Even in the face of tremendous obstacles, our teams on the ground remain committed to delivering life-saving aid,” Dujarric emphasized.
