Reports from Abudwak district in Galgaduud region indicate that heavy fighting has occurred there, resulting in casualties, both dead and injured, after armed militias launched an attack on the district’s police station.

The fighting broke out amid tensions that had recently gripped the town regarding the construction of a new building at the Abudwaq police station.

According to local sources, the main dispute revolves around the direction the new station’s gate is facing, which the attacking militias strongly opposed.

The militias objected to the gate being directed towards an area where hotels and business premises are located, expressing concerns that the new gate’s orientation could negatively affect local security, the economy, and commercial activities.

Preliminary reports indicate that at least 6 people were killed in the fighting, including militias, police officers, and civilians. Additionally, 2 other people were injured in the shootout, which lasted for several hours.

The situation in the town remains tense, and there are fears that fighting could break out again if a swift political solution is not found.

So far, district authorities and security officials have not commented on the latest developments, although unofficial reports suggest that efforts are underway to prevent further conflict.
