MOGADISHU – The Deputy Head of the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), Ambassador Mouktar Osman Kaire, has reiterated the mission’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s security transition during talks with South West State leadership in Mogadishu.

Ambassador Kaire paid a courtesy visit to South West State President Sheikh Aden Mohamed Noor (Aden Madobe), where he congratulated him on his election and pledged continued cooperation aimed at strengthening stability and governance in the region.

He praised ongoing efforts to improve security coordination and stabilisation programmes across South West State, stressing that sustained collaboration between Somali authorities and AUSSOM remains essential for long-term peacebuilding.

The two sides discussed priority areas including joint security planning, counter-insurgency coordination, and the expansion of stabilisation initiatives in newly recovered and vulnerable areas.

Officials said particular emphasis was placed on accelerating the development of Somali security forces, including training, operational readiness, and improved command structures to enable gradual transfer of security responsibilities from international partners to Somali institutions.

Ambassador Kaire reaffirmed that AUSSOM will continue to align its support with Somalia’s national security priorities, highlighting the importance of coordinated planning between federal and regional authorities.

He added that the mission remains committed to helping Somali forces take full ownership of security operations as part of the broader transition strategy.

The visit is part of ongoing consultations between AUSSOM and Somali regional administrations aimed at consolidating security gains and supporting political stability across the country.
