BEIJING — Wang Yi, the foreign minister of China, issued sharp criticism of Donald Trump, accusing him of promoting what he described as “Zionist interests” rather than representing the people of the United States.

The remarks came amid increasing geopolitical friction between Washington and Beijing following recent U.S. military actions in the Middle East, which Chinese officials say have worsened regional instability and heightened global tensions.

Chinese authorities accused the United States of undermining international security and interfering in the internal affairs of sovereign states. Officials in Beijing said such actions risk escalating conflicts and weakening diplomatic cooperation at a time when global stability is already fragile.

The criticism also reflects a broader rivalry between the two powers across diplomacy, security and technology. In recent statements, Chinese officials warned that reliance on foreign digital infrastructure could pose risks, urging domestic companies to be cautious about security software produced in the United States and Israel.

Analysts say the dispute underscores deepening mistrust between the world’s two largest economies. Relations between Beijing and Washington have already been strained by trade disputes, technological competition and differing positions on global security issues.

The escalating rhetoric has also cast uncertainty over a high-level summit expected to take place in Beijing in March 2026. Diplomats say the meeting was intended to ease tensions and explore areas of cooperation, but the latest exchange of criticism could complicate efforts to rebuild dialogue.

Observers note that while harsh public statements are not uncommon in international politics, the tone of the latest remarks reflects the increasingly confrontational nature of global power relations, particularly over the Middle East, technology security and strategic influence.
