MOGADISHU, (HAN) – President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has announced that Egypt is set to deploy troops to Somalia as part of the African Union mission.
Speaking in Mogadishu, President Hassan Sheikh confirmed that preparations have already been made for the arrival and deployment of the Egyptian contingent in the country.
“The first units of Egyptian forces participating in the African Union operation will soon arrive in Somalia,” the President stated. This marks the first time that Egypt has formally contributed troops to the multinational security mission in Somalia.
The move is seen as part of broader regional cooperation to support stability and security in Somalia, where African Union forces continue to assist Somali government troops in combating extremist groups.
