CAIRO – Egypt and Mozambique have moved to deepen cooperation in security, healthcare, trade, and development as the two nations celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations.
The commitment was announced following talks between Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Mozambican Foreign Minister Maria Lucas, who discussed expanding partnerships to support economic growth and regional stability.
Egypt called for greater involvement of its private sector in Mozambique’s development plans, particularly in infrastructure, energy projects, education, and technical training. Cairo said stronger economic cooperation could help advance Mozambique’s long-term development goals and create new opportunities for investment.
A major focus of the discussions was healthcare cooperation. Egypt highlighted its readiness to expand pharmaceutical collaboration with Mozambique by sharing expertise, strengthening coordination between medical authorities, and supporting wider access to Egyptian-made medicines across the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
The two countries also discussed strengthening security cooperation amid growing challenges facing parts of Africa. Egyptian Foreign Minister Abdelatty emphasized Cairo’s willingness to share experience in counter-terrorism, security training, and institutional development to help African partners address emerging threats.
Egypt pointed to the role of its national institutions, including Al-Azhar, higher education bodies, the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development, and the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding, in supporting African capacity-building efforts.
The ministers also exchanged views on major security developments across the continent, including challenges in the Horn of Africa and the Great Lakes region, where conflicts, armed groups, and humanitarian pressures continue to affect stability.
Both sides stressed the importance of African-led solutions and closer coordination through regional and international platforms. They agreed to accelerate preparations for the third session of the Egypt-Mozambique Joint Committee to further strengthen cooperation.
The meeting reflects Egypt’s growing diplomatic engagement across Africa, combining economic partnerships, healthcare support, security cooperation, and efforts to promote peace and sustainable development on the continent.
