The Government of Eritrea has issued a strong condemnation of the Federal Government of Ethiopia, accusing it of waging a diplomatic campaign designed to portray Eritrea as a threat to Ethiopia and of violating Eritrea’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

In an official press statement released by the Eritrean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government claimed that Ethiopia has been sending messages to the UN Secretary-General and several world leaders, alleging that Eritrea is repeatedly causing instability and interfering in Ethiopia’s internal affairs.

Eritrea dismissed these claims as “fabrications and political fantasies,” describing them as part of “a clear scheme by Ethiopia to incite war” and to falsely convince the international community that Eritrea poses a threat.

The statement further alleged that Ethiopia has undertaken measures including:

  • 1. Purchasing large quantities of weapons,
  • 2. Organizing activities aimed at destabilizing the region,
  • 3. Issuing direct threats against Eritrea’s sovereignty.

The Eritrean government stated that it has shown “extraordinary restraint” and remains committed to avoiding a military response. It added that it is fully aware of what it described as Ethiopia’s agenda: “to create an armed conflict that has been in the making for some time.”
