Former Somali President Ali Osoble Criticizes Political Opponents Amid Mogadishu Tensions

MOGADISHU — Former Somali President Ali Osoble has sharply criticized political figures he described as opponents of the federal government, accusing them of seeking political advantage amid tensions in the capital, Mogadishu.

Speaking during a public address, Osoble alleged that some opposition leaders were hoping to benefit from instability and conflict, but expressed confidence that security challenges in the capital would be brought under control.

“Some people want to celebrate and exploit the situation, but the conflict in Mogadishu will be brought to an end today,” Osoble said.

The former president also claimed that Somalia faces threats from multiple sources, referring to both militant groups and political actors whom he accused of undermining national stability.

His remarks come amid heightened political debate in Somalia over security, governance and the country’s political future. The comments are likely to add to ongoing discussions between government supporters and opposition groups regarding the direction of the nation.

Somalia’s federal government and opposition leaders have repeatedly faced calls from civil society, traditional elders and international partners to resolve political disagreements through dialogue and peaceful engagement in order to preserve stability and support ongoing state-building efforts.

Political tensions have periodically emerged in Somalia as leaders debate issues related to governance, elections and national security, while authorities continue operations against the Al-Shabaab militant group in several parts of the country.
