KAMPALA — The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) continues to deepen its engagement with Member States as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen regional cooperation and advance common development and economic priorities across the Horn of Africa.
Representing IGAD Executive Secretary H.E. Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, IGAD Head of Mission to Uganda, Amb. Joselyne Bigirwa, held a meeting with Mr. Ramathan Ggoobi, Permanent Secretary and Secretary to the Treasury at Uganda’s Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development.
The meeting provided an opportunity for IGAD and the Government of Uganda to discuss ways of strengthening institutional cooperation and enhancing coordination on regional priorities. The discussions also highlighted the importance of closer collaboration between IGAD and its Member States in addressing shared economic, development and regional challenges.
Key areas of discussion included strengthening regional cooperation, promoting economic integration, supporting sustainable development initiatives and improving coordination between national institutions and IGAD structures. The engagement also underscored the importance of mobilizing resources and strengthening partnerships to support regional programmes and initiatives.
Amb. Bigirwa reaffirmed IGAD’s commitment to working closely with Uganda and other Member States to translate regional priorities into practical programmes that can contribute to sustainable economic growth, resilience and improved livelihoods across the region.
The meeting with Uganda’s Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development further demonstrates IGAD’s efforts to maintain regular high-level engagement with Member States and ensure that regional priorities are aligned with national development strategies.
Uganda remains an important IGAD Member State, and continued cooperation is expected to contribute to stronger regional coordination, economic resilience and the implementation of shared priorities across the IGAD region.
