GAALKAYO — Clashes between two clan-based armed groups were reported in the Buula Bacley neighborhood of Gaalkayo, in Somalia’s Mudug region, raising fears of renewed communal violence in the city.

According to local reports, the fighting erupted after tensions between the two sides escalated. The groups have reportedly been involved in previous confrontations in parts of Mudug, with disputes between the communities remaining unresolved.
Heavy gunfire was heard across the neighborhood for nearly an hour, according to residents. The fighting reportedly disrupted normal activities and caused residents to seek shelter as the exchange of fire continued.
At least one person was reportedly killed, while several others were wounded. Some of those injured were taken to medical facilities in Gaalkayo for treatment. The full extent of the casualties has not yet been independently confirmed.
The latest violence has heightened concerns among residents, particularly because of the history of armed confrontations between the two sides in areas east of Mudug. Local communities fear that continued tensions could trigger further clashes or spread to other parts of Gaalkayo.
Authorities and community elders are reportedly working to contain the situation and mediate between the opposing sides. Efforts are focused on stopping the fighting, preventing retaliation and restoring calm in the affected neighborhood.
Residents have called on the parties involved to immediately end the violence and resolve their differences through dialogue. They have also urged local authorities and traditional leaders to strengthen security measures and prevent civilians from becoming victims of further clashes.
The security situation in Buula Bacley remains tense, and further developments are being closely monitored.
