TEHRAN — The official Iranian news agency IRNA reported today that Iran is preparing for the “possibility of entering a war with Israel,” confirming that the country’s armed forces have been placed on high alert amid growing regional tensions.
According to IRNA, senior Iranian military officials have convened a series of emergency meetings in recent days to review operational readiness and defense strategies. The report stated that all branches of the Iranian Armed Forces — including the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the regular army, and the air defense units — are on standby for any potential Israeli aggression.
Military sources quoted by IRNA said Iran has intensified surveillance along its borders and in strategic areas, including the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz, and the western frontiers facing Iraq and Syria. The Iranian Air Force has reportedly deployed additional defense systems and radar equipment to monitor regional airspace.
The report emphasized that the decision to heighten readiness follows what Tehran describes as “provocations and threats” from Israel and its allies. Iranian officials accused Israel of attempting to destabilize the region and warned that any direct attack on Iranian territory or interests would be met with a “strong and immediate response.”
In a statement broadcast on state television, a senior commander of the IRGC reiterated Iran’s commitment to defending its sovereignty, saying:
“Our enemies should know that Iran is fully prepared for any confrontation. We do not seek war, but we will not hesitate to defend our people and our nation’s security.”
Regional analysts say the announcement marks one of the most serious warnings from Iran in recent years, raising fears that the ongoing tensions could escalate into a broader Middle Eastern conflict.
Diplomatic sources in Tehran also revealed that the Iranian government has been in contact with allied groups and governments across the region, including Hezbollah in Lebanon and the Syrian government, to coordinate potential responses in the event of an Israeli strike.
International observers have called for restraint from both sides, warning that a direct Iran–Israel conflict could have devastating consequences for the entire region, disrupting global oil routes and further destabilizing the Middle East.
