TEHRAN — Iran’s state television has issued a warning to Iranian officials involved in negotiations with the United States, urging them to avoid past mistakes and turn what Tehran describes as military gains into lasting diplomatic and political influence.
The report warned Iranian negotiators against making major concessions simply to end the conflict, using the 1938 Munich Agreement as a historical example. It argued that concessions made by Britain and France to Nazi Germany in an attempt to prevent a wider war ultimately failed to stop Adolf Hitler’s expansion and were followed by the German invasion of Poland in 1939, which triggered World War II.
Iranian state media used the example to argue that concessions made in the pursuit of peace can sometimes allow the opposing side to strengthen its position rather than resolve the underlying conflict.
The report also highlighted Iran’s experience in Syria, where Tehran had provided extensive political, military and financial support to former President Bashar al-Assad during the Syrian civil war.
According to the report, Iran’s long-term support helped Assad remain in power for years, but the eventual collapse of his government resulted in Tehran losing significant influence and investments in Syria.
Iranian state television presented the Syrian experience as another lesson for policymakers, warning that military and political investments can be lost if they are not converted into durable strategic influence.
The report further claimed that Iran currently considers itself to have achieved important gains in its confrontation with the United States. It argued that Washington is facing pressure and challenges related to its military resources and that Tehran should use the current circumstances to strengthen its position at the negotiating table.
Rather than allowing battlefield developments to remain temporary gains, the report called for Iran to translate them into diplomatic leverage, political guarantees and long-term regional influence.
The message reflects a cautious approach toward negotiations with Washington and suggests that Iranian officials are being urged to enter talks from a position of strength while avoiding concessions that could weaken Tehran’s strategic interests.
The report’s warnings come amid heightened tensions between Iran and the United States and ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at addressing the broader conflict and regional security concerns.
